Douglas Rushkoff: Present Shock. When Everything Happens Now

Douglas Rushkoff: Present Shock. When Everything Happens Now from Piers Fawkes on Vimeo.

Everyone is in the head space of air traffic controllers. Narrative collapse, over winding, long time periods squashed into small ones,  making money on the trade, not on the stock, on the derivative, the future value, the derivative market is 300 times bigger than the real stock. The NY stock exchange was bought by the derivatives market. Purchased by it's own abstraction. The NY stock exchange was already an abstraction of commerce, which was already an abstraction of culture. Better and more abstract abstractions to squish more time into the smallest thing to extend the obsolete agendas of the industrial age into the digital age. Time doesn't create media, media creates time. Clocks, People selling their time is the industrial age. Central currencies erase local currencies, lent into existence, paid back with interest in time. Clock, Sets in motion an economy that has to grow, expand, extend, taking wealth from others, narrative collapse of territory, the nets facebook and google sit upon a platform that they don't question. Venture capital and shareholders the opposite of revolutionaries, infact major conformists. LET'S LOOK AT THE UNDERLYING OPERATING SYSTEM AND SUBVERT THAT. To do that, RECLAIM TIME. Invent a new model of time, post narrative, open ended stories, sustainable agriculture, we need to move away from beginning middle and ends. WHERE WE NO LONGER NEED A ZOMBIE APOCOLYPSE or a SINGULARITY to justify computers false narrative, allowed to take us over in the name of  evolution. HOW SELF HATING IS THAT, human self loathing that is way to powerful. Don't buy into believing that human beings are just a passing phase of evolving complexity, be on team alive. Computers don't have a team, they are just corporate tools. The beauty of moving into a post narrative world, is that we lose certain goals, and ways of transmitting values, we lose how to win and in return we get to keep going. That is a sustainable model for society, looking at everything as sustainable steady state that we want to continue, instead of this thing that is required to grow because of an obsolete operating system, notion of time, an ADDICTION TO CHRONOUS and an INABILITY TO TOUCH CHAROUS (see spelling)
